6 easy and fun art activities for kids
Keep kids entertained for hours with these art projects

There is no shortage of art activity suggestions for kids on the internet — it is easy to feel overwhelmed by all the choices available. And for kids who may have tried them all, it can be hard to find new activity ideas out there that are fresh and engaging.

But guess what? We have just that!

These six great art creation experiences let kids flex their creative juices in a way that is going to be completely different from what they are used to, without sacrificing any of the fun. These art projects enrich a child’s free time and are a perfect way for kids to pass a lazy Saturday morning or that window of time after school and before dinner.

Added bonus: These art experiences are easy to set up. Even better, they are easy to clean up! You can also use whatever crayons, markers, and paints you have around the house if you don’t have a cupixel art set.

If you want to create with your kids, you can each set up your own device and make art side-by-side, but these are also great activities for kids to do independently, freeing you up to get your own work done.

The list below includes a variety of experience types: Drawing and painting using cupixel’s AR-powered “Smart Trace” technology to help kids trace outlines, freeflow painting, and cutouts. But one thing they all have in common is awesome artist-led experiences that will keep kids engaged and having fun.

    Cupixel zoo

Horses and llamas and pandas, oh my! In this experience, kids can pick from any number of colorful and cute animals and learn how to draw almost everything from bees to whales! Draw one animal, or create an entire menagerie!

    Experience type: Smart trace-powered drawing

    Time: 30 minutes

    Materials:

    • Square surface for drawing
    • Pencil
    • Pencil eraser
    • Markers

    Bubbles

Kids feeling bubbly? We have just the thing for them. In this experience, kids learn how to paint bubbles full of personality and fun. This is perfect for all bubble-blowing enthusiasts. Great for when you need an activity to fill the afternoon!

    Experience type: Free flow painting

    Time: 1 hour

    Materials:

    • Square surface for painting (canvas works great, but printer paper will do the trick, also!)
    • Pencil
    • Paint (acrylic if you have them!)
    • Paint brushes
    • Cup of water

    ORIGAMI ELEPHANTS

Elephants are the biggest land mammals in the world, but still manage to look sweet and cuddly! Kids can learn how to draw cute origami-style elephants in this fun and quick drawing experience. Perfect for when you have a short amount of time to fill!

    Experience type: Smart trace-powered drawing

    Time: 17 minutes

    Materials:

    • Square surface for drawing
    • Pencil
    • Pencil eraser
    • Markers

    FOOTPRINTS

Who’s leaving footprints all over the house!? Create and cut out outlines of shoeprints to use as decals, or to give the illusion that someone has been walking on the walls. This is a fun project that older kids can do on their own, though small children may need a little support.

    Experience type: Smart trace-powered drawing

    Time: 12 minutes

    Materials:

    • Light-colored paper for tracing the outline
    • Construction paper for the rest of the shoeprints
    • Pencil
    • Pencil eraser
    • Scissors

    PAINT YOUR PET

Kids have special relationships with their pets. If your kid is anything like mine, they can play with their pet all day (but draw the line at picking up after them!). This special experience has kids taking a picture of their favorite furry friend, converting it into a traceable outline, and then turning the entire thing into art that they have created themselves! The finished product is something kids can feel proud of.

    Experience type: Smart trace-powered painting

    Time: 40 minutes

    Materials:

    • Square surface for painting (canvas works great, but printer paper will do the trick, also!)
    • Pencil
    • Paint (acrylic if you have them!)
    • Paint brushes
    • Cup of water

    MINDFULLNESS with Acrylic

This is a great way to unwind at the end of a long day of learning, or a relaxing way for kids (and adults!) to ease themselves into the day. Art has a way of leaving us feeling recharged, and this experience leans into that by combining art creation with meditation.

    Experience type: Free flow painting

    Time: 22 minutes

    Materials:

    • Square surface for painting (canvas works great, but printer paper will do the trick, also!)
    • Pencil
    • Paint (acrylic if you have them!)
    • Paint brushes
    • Cup of water
